More men are turning to Orlando cosmetic surgery to correct gynecomastia, a condition of excess breast tissue that is thought to affect approximately 40 to 60 percent of men. A new study shows that treating gynecomastia improves a patient’s quality of life, and researchers also found that patients report a high degree of satisfaction with the procedure.
There is no known cause for gynecomastia, though doctors believe that hormonal problems–whether naturally occurring or through side effects from pharmacological drugs–may be a primary cause. Unfortunately, gynecomastia can be more than the enlargement of male breast tissue. Symptoms may also include swelling and tenderness in that area. During surgery, excess glandular tissue is removed, and a liposuction may be performed to eliminate fatty tissue. The cosmetic surgeon can create a flatter, firmer chest contour through liposuction of breast tissue, direct excision of breast tissue or a combination of the two techniques.
A study once examined 126 patients who had undergone male breast reduction. It found that a patient’s quality of life improved following the surgery, with an average satisfaction score of 8.2 out of 10.
