Cosmetic Surgery Procedure For Cheek Reduction

Pope Plastic Surgery Center - ASPS Member Surgeon

Chubby cheeks may look cute on a little child or toddler but adults do prefer to have a more chiseled face. If you have chubby cheeks and want a thinner, well structured and well defined face, buccal fat extraction or cheek reduction is a good option.

An initial consultation with board certified surgeon in Orlando will help you in getting prepared for this plastic surgery. You need to be in sound general health, and must quit smoking if you are addicted to the bad habit! Your surgeon will also advise you to stop using blood thinning medicines like aspirin as bleeding needs to be controlled during a plastic surgery. Your board certified surgeon will also explain the various techniques and incision placement options along with the risks associated with buccal fat extraction.

Buccal fat extraction is done on an outpatient basis. A board certified surgeon may use light sleep sedation, regional anesthesia with sedation, local anesthesia with oral sedation or general IV sedation as per the procedure required for your case.

The procedure typically takes about one hour. It may sometimes be combined with a facelift procedure and this increases the duration of the surgery. During buccal fat extraction, a board certified surgeon removes the fat pads that augment your lower cheeks. These pads, which may be found in your cheeks and also along the sides of your face, give your face that rounded look. Some of this buccal fat may have to be surgically eliminated through incisions inside the mouth. If this is required, the surgeon also puts a piece of antibiotic-soaked gauze between your upper molars and gums and/or applies pressure dressing that spans from top of your head to underneath your chin.

After the surgery, you will be brought into the recovery room. As you regain consciousness from anesthesia effect, your face will feel tight due to dressings. A soft diet should be taken for a few days following the surgery and you must adhere to the post-operative instructions of your surgeon to ensure a quick recovery.

Surgical sutures are removed in 10 days and you can expect complete recovery to a chiseled and cosmetically superior face in about 20-25 days of your surgery!
